Schools are of major concern to many families relocating to Hawaii. On Oahu, most of the public schools are K-6 for elementary school, 7-8 for intermediary school and 9-12 for high school. The entire state is a single public school district with the public schools varying considerable from area to area. In general, the public schools tend to mirror the homes in the area. In nicer neighborhoods where most of the students will be attending college, the parents tend to be very interested in their children's education, support the PTA, etc. The schools reflect this interest both by the students and their parents. In contrast, there are areas on Oahu where a high percentage of students will dropout prior to graduation and more students exist that tend to create a disrupting influence in the schools.
A good place to start when researching schools is a state website at Education in Hawaii. This website provides numerous links covering both public and private schools. Another very useful link is the greatschools.net website for Hawaii schools. The Stott Team can also provide input: Mike and Donna Stott have had children in public school in every grade for K-12 and currently have a child in public school in the 6th grade, the 9th grade and at the University of Hawaii. Donna Stott is a past president of a public intermediary school PTA. Mike Stott and Tracey Stott Kelley both attended a parochial elementary/intermediary school and a private high school prior to the University of Hawaii. Mary Lou Stott taught elementary school in six states including Hawaii and is a former Director of Counseling at Chaminade University
