The new community of Kapolei and the older residential area of Makakilo lie just east of the Ko 'Olina Resort. These have become favorite areas for many families relocating to Hawaii, as there is a mixture of old and new homes at prices that tend to be favorable compared to many other areas of Hawaii. Both areas have single-family houses as well as townhouse complexes. Makakilo consists of two parts built on a large sloping hill. At the bottom are older, largely single-wall constructed houses, many with views. At the top are much newer homes including a gated community of expensive homes. Many of the homes at the top have spectacular views. Kapolei has a mixture of newer homes.
There is very limited shopping adjacent to Makakilo; however, in Kapolei are the Kapolei Shopping Center and the Marketplace at Kapolei as well as a 16-screen movie complex. Although these two areas are located very close to each other, they are found on two different sections of the map. If you're searching for properties, select Home Search from the top of the page. Then, select Conduct Your Own Search and click on the applicable area of the map. Makakilo has it's own section. We suggest you leave the neighborhoods blank. Kapolei is found under the map area titled Pearl City. It is large enough that we suggest you search it by itself vice searching all the residential areas located under map area Pearl City.
